Australia on Sunday warned terrorist attacks may be imminent in Indonesia, including Bali, the scene of two fatal bombings in 2002 and 2005.

The foreign affairs department upgraded its official travel advisory on Indonesia to warn that it had reports terrorists were planning attacks against Western interests.

“There have been recent arrests of high level terrorist operatives in Indonesia, but we assess terrorists are continuing active planning of attacks,” the advisory said.

“These attacks could take place at any time and could be imminent. Particular care should be taken at this time to avoid known terrorist targets.”

EU bans Indonesian airlines

July 3rd, 2007 · No Comments

All Indonesian airlines have been banned from flying to Europe in a safety crackdown that has also placed several carriers from Russia, Ukraine and Angola on an aviation blacklist. The ban was imposed following a series of accidents involving the country’s aircraft that have included two fatal crashes since the New Year which killed a total of 123 people. The national airline of Indonesia, Garuda, and the 50 other airlines registered in the country, will be kept away from the EU, although no Indonesian carriers at present fly to the continent.

Guardian

Tourism agencies around the EU are now obliged to tell customers to avoid even internal flight connections within Indonesia.

Jakarta Post

GARUDA Airlines is almost certain to keep flying Australian passengers despite a move by the European Union to bar it and all other Indonesian airlines from flying in European air space.
